Just a little gurgling falls

Took a little walk down to the old Jail Farm near my home to see if any of the little goslings had hatched yet and I thought that this was a pleasant scene as well.

And, yes, there were two wee babies that I saw so guess it won't be long now till there are hundreds swimming around.

The Kissing Bridge

This structure, the only remaining covered bridge in Ontario, was designed by John Bear in 1880, on the authority of Woolwich Township Council, to replace an earlier bridge over the Grand River. Built a year later by John and his brother, Benjamin, the 198-foot bridge was covered to protect the wooden flooring and frame against the elements.

Known locally as the Kissing Bridge, it later came under the jurisdiction of Waterloo County. In 1937 the province assumed responsibility for the Guelph-Elmira Road, including the West Montrose Bridge and its floor and sub-structure were subsequently rebuilt and reinforced.

Red-Winged Blackbird

I'm sorry for my absence but I've been travelling to Hamilton almost every day for nearly two weeks to the hospital there to take my friend's husband to see his wife. She's had very major surgery and now there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel but I'm one very weary "camper"!

But I took this shot of a Red-Winged Blackbird that was visiting on my deck. I'm trying to get used to this new camera but my photography has sort of taken a back seat for awhile but hoping that things will turn around after May 1.

Earth Day

Enjoying the Hot Dogs after Working

Today is Earth Day in Canada and the various neighbourhood groups in the city of Guelph were picking up the trash in the various parks and areas of their neighbourhoods.

These two little lads from the Grange Hill East Neighbourhood Group, had worked very hard with their parents and now was the time to enjoy the hot dogs. The background of the photo isn't that great but the expressions on their faces I enjoyed.

Other residents were clearing up all the trash behind the local plaza.

After all the work was done, all met back at the Grange Hill East Neighbourhood meeting room where hot dogs and refreshments were served and children could take part in making various crafts.

It's great to be part of a neighbourhood group! Are YOU a member of one in your city?

Wednesday in Hamilton

I tried posting last evening when I arrived home from Hamilton but blogspot was acting up!

I've been on the road a lot lately visiting an ill friend and I stopped by this park on Lake Ontario where the swans were putting on a lovely show. I had no choice of time to be there as I was driving my friend's husband home to Guelph so the sun was very, very bright but I took some photos anyway. Hope they aren't too "blown out".

Guelph is finally seeing spring!

Finally, Guelph is seeing some signs of spring. It's been late in coming but now we're seeing some lovely spring bulbs blooming!

I had to go to Hamilton (south of Guelph) today to take my friend's husband to see my friend who has emergency surgery on Monday.

On the way home, I thought I'd have a peek to see if the geese and swans were nesting on Lake Ontario and never found this out but this sea gull didn't mind my taking his photo.

As well as trying to shake this crazy virus I've had since Jan. 9, I have my very close friend in the hospital in Hamilton, Ontario and will be spending a lot of time on the road driving her husband to see her and the surgery is on Monday so hopefully, I'll get to take some photos down there but if now, you'll know where I am.

The first house in Guelph

...well at least a model of it!





This is a model of the first house built in Guelph by John Galt in 1827.

The measurements were taken prior to demolition of the building on May 6th-7th in 1926.

It is built to a scale of 1 1/2 inches to the foot.

Life is so busy at times...

We had a lovely family time over Easter with my children and some of the grandchildren and I was hardly home during the weekend.

It was lovely to see grandchildren from out of town who I don't see that often.

Winter Grasses

Today's photo is from my archives as the snow today was too heavy to drive and hopefully it will settle down enough tomorrow so that I can drive 50 km to my son's home for Easter Dinner.

I find that the winter grasses are beautiful in the snow. This rather large clump can be seen outside a doctor's office here in Guelph beside the parking lot.

I waited for the parking lot to pretty well clear out to make this photo.

I went shopping yesterday...

Yesterday I had "cabin fever" and decided to go and do a few errands and I thought that inside the supermarket looked pretty colourful. I patiently waited to get everyone out of the picture!

A Peek Back Into History

I don't know about you folks reading this but this, for me, is a very sad photo. This proud engine was very busy back in the 1950's and earlier and now, alas, there is not much interest in her.

Around her rusty body is a rusty fence that is placed so close to the engine that getting a nice photo is next to impossible. The paint is peeling off and the rust is beginning to show in many parts of her body. How very sad!

The other day as I was driving past, I saw a very elderly man with a walking cane standing quietly leaning on the rusty fence peering into the various parts of the engine. I noticed that this elderly gentleman had a well-worn striped railway cap on so I can imagine that many years ago, just perhaps he used to be an engineer on an engine just like Canadian National Engine 6167.

Sometimes, history is cruel. At least I feel so. When I saw this elderly gentleman with that faraway look in his eyes, I quickly got my camera out to take a photo of him but by the time I managed to turn it on, etc. someone had picked him up and they had driven away.

I would like to thank you very much for the messages that you posted the other day and for the emails I've received. I've had a very bad virus involving my lungs and trachea for many weeks and just as I thought that I was finally recovering, my lungs started to fill up again so off to the doctor's office.

Then during this in the past week, my close friend passed away leaving a very sad husband and four children between 12 and 19 years of age. Fifty-one is far too young.
